About Our Organization

WHO WE ARE?
GSNNJ: Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is the largest council in New Jersey. GSNNJ serves 20.5 percent of girls ages 5-17 in 160 municipalities located throughout Morris, Bergen, Sussex, Passaic, and Northern Warren Counties. There are currently 36,369 girl members and 18,464 adult members.

MISSION: The mission of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey(GSNNJ) is to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

PROGRAM: Girl Scouts is the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls -- all girls -- where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives – like strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.

The Girl Scout Leadership Development Program directly supports the mission of Girl Scouts: to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts serves all girls aged 5-17, with age-appropriate activities at every level. For older girls, Girl Scouts strives to provide increased opportunities focusing on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) projects, outdoor exploration, career development, and girl-designed and –executed community service.

FACILITIES: The Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey has three Service Centers located in Randolph, Riverdale, and Paramus. GSNNJ operates four outdoor facilities, Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham Township, N.J., Camp Mogisca and Camp Glen Spey both located in Glen Spey, N.Y., and Lake Rickabear in Kinnelon, N.J.

MEMBERSHIP: Girl Scouts is For Every Girl, Everywhere. GSNNJ’s goal is to give every girl the opportunity to be a Girl Scout. The council serves one out of five girls in Morris, Bergen, Sussex, Passaic, and the Northern half of Warren Counties between the ages of 5 and 17.

OUTREACH: Through outreach activities, Girl Scouting is made accessible to all girls, including those with special needs. The council currently has Girl Scouting groups in special needs schools, including hearing impaired, emotionally disturbed and learning disabled.
