Living in a healthy way has become a challenge for many Americans. Fast food, infrequent exercise, fewer family meals, an overabundance of technology and busy schedules have drawn children and their families away from active lifestyles that promote good health and too often point us to conveniences that may not steward our planet in a responsible way.
To help girls not only acquire healthy living skills, but become leaders in sharing these skills with their communities, a fun and educational girl-driven program, Eco Trek 2009: Live Healthy, Go Green. Eco Trek will include an Expo on healthy and green living, with interactive exhibits conceived and produced by girls, as well as related displays from the healthcare community.
Eco Trek 2009: Live Healthy, Go Green is a day-long event designed to expose girls to a wealth of interactive exhibits and inspire them to take action in caring for themselves, their peers and the world around us. The day will feature three components to promote and educate participants on making positive choices:
Expo – From Girls: a girl-created expo related to healthy living and “Going Green”
Expo – From Community Partners: exhibits from the business community.
Trek – a 1.2-mile trek around picturesque Lake Rickabear, GSNNJ’s 342-acre overnight and summer day-camp.
